Painters' Paintings: From Freud to Van Dyck

(Giovedì) (Domenica)

Explore the connections between artists and the paintings they possessed

'Painters' Paintings' takes its inspiration from works in the collection once owned by artists including Lucian Freud, Matisse, Degas, Lawrence, Reynolds, and Van Dyck.

The exhibition investigates artists' motivations for acquiring other painters' works – artistic inspiration, scholarly interest, or to support their fellow artists; as status symbols and investments; or even out of obsession.

'Painters' Paintings' also considers the influence of these paintings on the artists that acquired them, and more widely on academia and even public collections, such as the Gallery's own.
