The images that come to us on a daily basis via internet, television and numerous advertising messages are so comprehensive, fast and penetrating that it requests a response. Contemporary artists are aware of their task to give new purpose to the visual world surrounding you and to touch you in a whole different way to let you reflect and enjoy images.
The fourteenth edition of Art Rotterdam shows you the latest developments in visual art and is the platform to experience the current state of affairs in contemporary art.
In the beautiful Cruise Terminal and the characteristic LP2 at the Wilhelminapier 95 galleries, of which 50% is from abroad, present their most up to date programme. A great deal of the galleries that are also present at the top of the international art fairs in Basel, London and New York choose to introduce their upcoming artists. That is what makes Art Rotterdam one of the most exciting art fairs for emerging art in Europe.
To further strengthen our international reputation we introduce a special section for film and video. Art Rotterdam Projections takes place in the building LP2 opposite the Cruise terminal. Nowadays more and more artists work with video to shape their ideas. In museums and at biennials video and film are an important part of the presented art. At Art Rotterdam Projections approximately 20 galleries present a video work of an upcoming or more renowned artist in an open and interactive setting.
Art Rotterdam also pulls you into the city of Rotterdam to discover the best the city has to offer culturally. During the fair the city is a happening place bubbling with satellite fairs, pop-up shows, open studios and impressive exhibitions in the museums.
