Take care & take heart installation

(Saturday) (Saturday)

Hatched Gallery is pleased to present TAKE CARE & TAKE HEART INSTALLATION, curated by Blair Lamar along with artist Mohamed-El-Haddi. Their collaboration created an interactive installation.

The two artistic documentary films TAKE CARE and TAKE HEART by Mohamed-El-Haddi, which were broken down into significant 'tableaux', create an interactive journey in which the viewers play an active part, interacting with various scenes from the films while learning about caring and dementia.

The ongoing docu-series tells the life story of ‘Family Carer’ Vinnette Campbell, who cares for her 90-year-old father, Terence Campbell, suffering from vascular dementia. Using the Aurasma app and SMART technologies, Blair Lamar and Mohamed-El-Haddi were able to take stills from the films, animate them and produce a mixed-media installation, encouraging the visitors to explore a carer's experience, challenges and rewards using their iPhones and tablets.

In addition to the interactive exhibition, there will be a Poetry Slam event featuring poets Helen Vicary, Kwaku Amaning and Moses Ssebandeke. They will be performing original pieces they created, inspired from the films and the themes of caring, growing old and dementia. This will be followed by a live art performance by Blair Lamar, with a focus on living with dementia, how it can create struggles within, but also how there is always a way to see a silver lining.

The TAKE CARE & TAKE HEART interactive exhibition is an introduction to the film screening of TAKE CARE.

Our hope is to raise awareness about the important role that Dementia Concern plays in the lives of carers such as Vinnette and how they help on a daily basis.
