Melanie Gilligan. The Common Sense Substitution

Die Videos von Melanie Gilligan (*1979 in Toronto, lebt in New York) thematisieren mit viel Drama, Humor, Science Fiction und Horror die aktuellen politischen und wirtschaftlichen Verhältnisse. Die Ausstellung präsentiert eine Auswahl aus Gilligans Videoserie „The Common Sense“ (2013–15) sowie die Premiere des neuen Videos „Substitution“ (2014), das gemeinsam mit der Künstlergruppe Wooloo entstanden ist. In beiden Arbeiten prägen die wirtschaftlichen Verhältnisse die Hauptpersonen, deren Lebensumstände und soziale Beziehungen.

With a lot of  drama, comedy, science fiction and horror  the videos of Melanie Gilligan (*1979 Toronto, lives in New York) address current political and economic conditions. This exhibition presents a section of Gilligan’s recent serial video work “The Common Sense“ (2013–15) alongside the premier of a new video, “Substitution“ (2014), made in collaboration with artist group Wooloo. In both these works economic conditions impact and shape the characters and their social relationships.
