"The lightness of being uncertain may be one way to consider the work of young British artist Ruairiadh O;Connell whose practice casts a wry glance over contemporary society whilst residing contemplatively within the poetic sphere of the thinker, poet and botanist, creating organic fusions of light matter." O;Connell;s practice is composed of experiments which posit the artwork as a matter of wonder; an experiment in balance, literal and metaphorical. It is a pursuit in which the poetics belong to the everyday. "By being recognisable, the objects already have a relative value - I play off their understood meaning."
Ruariadh O;Connell, born in 1983, received his BA at Oxford Brookes University in 2006. He is currently doing an artist residence at Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste, Frankfurt.
