Daniel Heidkamp, Matt Jones, Shay Kun - Three Painters

(Saturday) (Saturday)

Buia Gallery is pleased to present "Three Painters", a group exhibition featuring gallery artists Daniel Heidkamp, Matt Jones, and Shay Kun. All engaging clearly with painting, "Three Painters" focuses on three highly distinct approaches to the medium. In oil on canvas and oil on Stonehenge paper, the three artists approach varying modes of figuration and abstraction. The common thread is a distinctly contemporary tone, palette, and sense of humor. Optimism in the face of decay, Warhol-like epic stardom found in the everyday, and amused reveling in the imperfect historical and personal encompass the major themes of the show.

Daniel Heidkamp, a Boston Museum School graduate, joined the gallery this fall with his New York debut solo exhibition, "Open Relationship", and has been highly active, taking part in the group exhibition "In Your Face" featuring such artists as Peter Saul, Ridley Howard, and Holly Coulis at the gallery this December. Daniel has an upcoming solo show in April at Lamontagne Gallery in Boston.

Matt Jones, a Cooper Union graduate, had his highly successful second solo exhibition, "Everlasting", at the gallery this past March. His work was also featured in "Timeless: the Art of Drawing" curated by Ann Aptaker at the Morris Museum this past fall as well as in the "In Your Face" exhibition this December.

Shay Kun, a Goldsmiths graduate, participated in "Pole Shift" curated by Project Gentili as part of the VIP Program of Artforum Berlin this fall and presented his solo exhibition, "Nails and Feathers", at the gallery. Additionally, Kun was featured in "Artfutures" at the Bloomberg Space in London. Kun will have a solo exhibition this year with David Castillo Gallery in Miami.
