These forms are closely interwoven into the human experience, as even the body itself can be considered an object.Brianna Calello (MFA Photography, Video and Related Media) investigates the social practice of family photography through the traditional display of framed portraits.In a series of portraits, Hao-Chun Chang (BFA Illustration) combines masculine figures with stereotypically feminine colors and motifs, celebrating a union of the two genders within the artist.Laura David (BFA Illustration) explores the idea of dysmorphia, a persistent conflict between one’s own body and image, and incorporates it into her work by means of humor.Max Kornfield (BFA Visual and Critical Studies) combines painting and everyday objects to explore their relationship to femininity and human connection.Mingzi Ma (BFA Illustration) paints the human navel in a symbolization of the start of life and end of birth.Hayley McCormack (BFA Fine Arts) creates mixed-media works from ready-mades and home décor, highlighting the objectification of bodies in contemporary culture.Jennifer Rappaport (MFA Fine Arts) brings awareness to the relationship the viewer has with two-dimensional spaces through painting relationships between figures and their surroundings.Lingfei Ren (MFA Photography, Video and Related Media) uses herself as the focus in a series of photographs that speak to the various struggles of urban life.Juried exhibitions are a way for SVA students to recognize the achievements of their most distinguished classmates. Artists are selected from a large pool of applicants to the annual SVA Galleries call for entries, whose submissions undergo a rigorous examination of presented materials, including documentation of work and artist statements.
