Ancient Civilisations Week

(Saturday) (Saturday)

Ancient Civilisations Week will be brought back to life around Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery between Saturday 17th and Saturday 24th of November. Discover a wealth of artefacts from our collection that have helped shape our knowledge of people that lived thousands of years ago in the very earliest cities and societies.

EXPLORE the fantastic artefacts in our collection with our Trade Route Trail that takes you on a journey between ancient cities. (Available all week, free).

DISCUSS Ancient Egypt with the West Midlands Egyptological Society as part of their conference Aswan to Alexandra: Travel and Exploration in Egypt from Antiquity to the Modern Day. Follow the link for more information and to book.

GET INVOLVED with activities in our Ancient Civilisation Forum. Make your own Mesopotamian cylinder seal, design an Indus valley city and get hands on with genuine artefacts with our expert Eleanor Bennett. (Monday 19th. Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd November, free)

LEARN the fascinating story of Ur from Helene Maloigne's talk 'Jewels, Graves and Scholars: Illustrating the Royal City or Ur'. (Tuesday 20th November, free)

MEET other parents with small children in our Brummie Mummies session in the Mini Museum (Saturday 24th November)

To be confirmed: Discover the story of Gertrude Bell and how she shaped the destiny of Iraq after the First World War with a showing of the film 'Letters from Baghdad' introduced by Dr. Zena Kamash (Saturday 24th November)
