China’s growing social, industrial and economic power has paved the way for new industries like graphic design to emerge and flourish. To highlight the country’s creative force, School of Visual Arts and Shenzhen Graphic Design Association present “Graphic Design in China,” a juried biennial that aims to showcase the highest level of Chinese design to an international audience. Featuring work by award-winning designers, “Graphic Design in China” will be on view from August 25through September 20 at the SVA Chelsea Gallery in New York City.China’s growing social, industrial and economic power has paved the way for new industries like graphic design to emerge and flourish. Featuring work by award-winning designers, “Graphic Design in China” will be on view from August 25through September 20 at the SVA Chelsea Gallery in New York City.Juried by a group of 15 top international designers, “Graphic Design in China” comprises over 150 works—including typography, illustration, information visualizations, animation, new media and environmental design—and contextualizes contemporary Chinese design within the country’s broader culture, commerce and daily life.Started in 1992, Graphic Design in China (GDC) was founded to establish a new design standard for China. As China’s first, most prestigious and expansive design competition, the GDC has evolved into a traveling exhibition that helps to facilitate the exchange of graphic ideas between China and the rest of the world. The exhibition is held every two years and open to submissions from professionals and emerging young talents. The New York edition of the GDC exhibition follows successful exhibitions in Japan, England, Melbourne and Atlanta.School of Visual Arts has been a leader in the education of artists, designers and creative professionals for seven decades. With a faculty of distinguished working professionals, a dynamic curriculum and an emphasis on critical thinking, SVA is a catalyst for innovation and social responsibility. Comprising 6,000 students at its Manhattan campus and nearly 37,000 alumni in 75 countries, SVA also represents one of the most influential artistic communities in the world.
