High​ ​School​ ​students​ ​throughout​ ​the​ ​United​ ​States​ ​are​ ​invited​ ​by​ ​the​ ​BFA​ ​Photography and​ ​Video​ ​Department​ ​at​ ​the​ ​School​ ​of​ ​Visual​ ​Arts​ ​to​ ​exhibit​ ​their​ ​photography​ ​alongside their​ ​peers​ ​in​ ​a​ ​group​ ​show​ ​that​ ​explores​ ​themes​ ​of​ ​America​ ​in​ ​2017.​ ​Each​ ​artist​ ​who submits​ ​work​ ​is​ ​guaranteed​ ​to​ ​be​ ​represented​ ​in​ ​“2017​ ​America,”​ ​which​ ​aims​ ​to​ ​give​ ​voice to​ ​the​ ​newest​ ​members​ ​of​ ​the​ ​visual​ ​community.​ ​The​ ​exhibition​ ​will​ ​be​ ​on​ ​view​ ​from November​ ​17th​ ​through​ ​December​ ​3rd​ ​at​ ​SVA​ ​Gramercy​ ​Gallery​ ​in​ ​New​ ​York​ ​City.High​ ​School​ ​students​ ​throughout​ ​the​ ​United​ ​States​ ​are​ ​invited​ ​by​ ​the​ ​BFA​ ​Photography and​ ​Video​ ​Department​ ​at​ ​the​ ​School​ ​of​ ​Visual​ ​Arts​ ​to​ ​exhibit​ ​their​ ​photography​ ​alongside their​ ​peers​ ​in​ ​a​ ​group​ ​show​ ​that​ ​explores​ ​themes​ ​of​ ​America​ ​in​ ​2017.​ ​Each​ ​artist​ ​who submits​ ​work​ ​is​ ​guaranteed​ ​to​ ​be​ ​represented​ ​in​ ​“2017​ ​America,”​ ​which​ ​aims​ ​to​ ​give​ ​voice to​ ​the​ ​newest​ ​members​ ​of​ ​the​ ​visual​ ​community.​ ​The​ ​exhibition​ ​will​ ​be​ ​on​ ​view​ ​from November​ ​17th​ ​through​ ​December​ ​3rd​ ​at​ ​SVA​ ​Gramercy​ ​Gallery​ ​in​ ​New​ ​York​ ​City.Understanding​ ​the​ ​perspectives​ ​of​ ​the​ ​young,​ ​whose​ ​future​ ​will​ ​be​ ​impacted​ ​the​ ​most​ ​by decisions​ ​made​ ​in​ ​this​ ​tumultuous​ ​time,​ ​is​ ​crucial.​ ​SVA’s​ ​BFA​ ​Photography​ ​and​ ​Video Department​ ​is​ ​eager​ ​to​ ​know​ ​who​ ​they​ ​are:​ ​what​ ​they​ ​are​ ​seeing​ ​and​ ​thinking,​ ​how​ ​they would​ ​define​ ​this​ ​vast​ ​country​ ​in​ ​the​ ​present,​ ​and​ ​what​ ​they​ ​​​feel​ ​about​ ​it.All​ ​genres​ ​and​ ​sensibilities​ ​are​ ​encouraged​ ​to​ ​be​ ​expressed​ ​from​ ​work​ ​that​ ​is​ ​overtly political​ ​and​ ​issue-oriented,​ ​to​ ​that​ ​which​ ​lends​ ​a​ ​very​ ​personal​ ​interpretation​ ​to​ ​life​ ​in​ ​the United​ ​States​ ​at​ ​this​ ​moment.Submissions​ ​are​ ​welcomed​ ​through​ ​October​ ​1,​ ​2017​ ​at​ ​midnight.​​ ​Each​ ​entry​ ​is​ ​limited​ ​to​ ​five​ ​images, and​ ​at​ ​least​ ​one​ ​of​ ​each​ ​will​ ​be​ ​chosen​ ​to​ ​exhibit.​ ​The​ ​work​ ​will​ ​be​ ​printed​ ​by​ ​the​ ​BFA Photography​ ​and​ ​Video​ ​Department,​ ​and​ ​the​ ​dimensions​ ​of​ ​the​ ​work​ ​will​ ​be​ ​chosen​ ​by​ ​the exhibition​ ​team.​ ​The​ ​exhibition,​ ​along​ ​with​ ​its​ ​reception​ ​on​ ​Thursday,​ ​November​ ​30th​ ​from 6:00-8:00pm,​ ​will​ ​be​ ​free​ ​and​ ​open​ ​to​ ​the​ ​public.BFA​ ​Photography​ ​and​ ​Video​​ ​students​ ​at​ ​SVA​ ​immerse​ ​themselves​ ​in​ ​all​ ​aspects​ ​of commercial​ ​and​ ​fine​ ​art​ ​photography​ ​and​ ​video,​ ​gaining​ ​a​ ​better​ ​understanding​ ​of​ ​various genres,​ ​ideas​ ​and​ ​vocabularies.​ ​With​ ​access​ ​to​ ​cutting-edge​ ​facilities—as​ ​well​ ​as​ ​a 100-plus​ ​faculty​ ​of​ ​photographers,​ ​museum​ ​directors,​ ​critics,​ ​art​ ​directors,​ ​editors​ ​and collectors—they​ ​are​ ​able​ ​to​ ​hone​ ​their​ ​craft​ ​and​ ​cultivate​ ​their​ ​own​ ​sensibility​ ​and​ ​visual style.
