Esther Stocker in dialogue with: breadedEscalope, chmara.rosinke, Patrick Rampelotto, Klemens Schillinger

The last dialogue of the series Grenzdialoge (border dialogues) confronts the artist Esther Stocker with designers of her generation and exemplifies the postmodern exchange of methods and creative strategies in both creative fields.

Since the beginning of the 20th century, the crossing of borders between the artistic genres has been an immanent dynamic of the arts, which was meant to allow the utopian unification of man, nature, society and technique in an interdisciplinary form.

The fine arts provoked the dissolution of the boundaries of genre through the expansion of painting and sculpture into the room. Combined with the declared equality of object and sculpture, initiated by Duchamp, this stimulated the transgression towards the field of design. Esther Stocker's contribution to the exhibition demonstrates this transitory aspect in an almost didactical and clear way. Therewith, she is a representative of a phenomenon of the recent Austrian art history, which did not yet gain the appropriate attention and extends from Walter Pichler">Walter Pichler" href="index.php?page=artist_id&id=4683">Walter Pichler" href="index.php?page=artist_id&id=4683">Walter Pichler to Franz West">Franz West" href="index.php?page=artist_id&id=4982">Franz West" href="index.php?page=artist_id&id=4982">Franz West, Heimo Zobernig">Heimo Zobernig" href="index.php?page=artist_id&id=4983">Heimo Zobernig" href="index.php?page=artist_id&id=4983">Heimo Zobernig, Peter Kogler, Gerwald Rockenschaub et al.

On the other hand, a specific notion of design evolved while looking for a designation of a broadly independent way of thinking and acting between the creative disciplines; its claim of autonomy expresses itself in a variety of noncommissioned experimental works.

The exhibition deliberately avoids to draw any lines between the disciplines and therefore it purposefully shows works as KEIL by the designers breadedEscalope, which is rather a in-depth sculptural analysis of loads, support and aesthetics of materials than furniture.
