Miguel Marcos Gallery was founded in Zaragoza in 1981. In 1987 opened a second Galley in Madrid. Thereupon, on February 27th of 1998 was inaugurated new Gallery in Barcelona with Joan Brossa’s work “Quatre emplaçaments”. Since then Miguel Marcos Gallery is based in Barcelona, where has organised more than 90 exhibitions uninterruptedly. Gallery’s philosophy has shown a consistent an unconditional commitment with the Spanish art of the eighties and nineties, becoming a reference for dissemination of contemporary art.
Focus on innovation without losing sight of tradition; Miguel Marcos Gallery has incorporated new languages and formats. Throughout his more than thirty years of experience as well as promote and disseminate the work of artists such as Alfonso Albacete, Joan Brossa, Chema Cobo, Carlos Franco, Xavier Grau, Bernardí Roig and José Maria Yturralde, has integrated key international artists, as Stephan Ach, Stephan Balkenhol, Michel Biberstein, Herbert Brandl, Imi Knoebel, Jonathan Lasker, Glen Rubsamen and Bill Thompson. From this solid core, almost polyhedral has created a network of artists whose works evoke an aesthetic links, which is intended to be relational aesthetic. The objective is that the works illuminate between them asking about the real significance of Art. In other words, the artistic proposal of Miguel Marcos Gallery wants to be a reflection about plastic contemporary art of his time, suggesting relations of streams that are connected each other.
On the other way, Miguel Marcos Gallery works for the preservation and dissemination of historical memory and culture, working at the same time in both curating and editing publications. Some of the most important publications are Por la Pintura, Los años pintados, Miguel Marcos 25 años and 20 en la Colección Miguel Marcos. In 2007 the Gallery edited and published El Libro de la Galería Miguel Marcos. 1977-2005 (The Book of Miguel Marcos Gallery. 1977-2005), which collects in two large volumes the Gallery history in relation to the international art context. Renowned art historians and critics contributed to the book, such as Juan Manuel Bonet, Fernando Castro Flórez, Miguel Fernández-Cid, Pablo Jiménez Burillo, Arnau Puig, Enrique Juncosa or Rosina Gómez Baeza. Following the ideal of democratization of culture, these publications, as well as other publications from Gallery holdings, are donated in the most prestigious libraries all over the world.
Miguel Marcos Gallery has participated in numerous editions of the most important international art fairs, such as ARCO Madrid, Art Basel, Art Chicago, Art Cologne or FIAC. In 2008, the Gallery got the AECA Award for the best gallery in ARCO 2008.
