About
Hans P. Kraus Jr. Inc., established in New York in 1984, is a dealer in nineteenth and early twentieth-century photographs. The gallery is most recognized for its presentation of the work of William Henry Fox Talbot, who announced his invention of photography in 1839, and other pioneers. Publications and exhibitions are produced regularly about important early photographers such as Talbot, Gustave Le Gray, Roger Fenton, Julia Margaret Cameron, Hill & Adamson, Captain Linnaeus Tripe, Charles Nègre and Joseph, vicomte Vigier. In keeping with that tradition, the gallery also shows the work of Pictorialist photographers, such as Edward Steichen, Frederick H. Evans and Alvin Langdon Coburn, who constitute the first cohesive movement to promote photography as fine art in the beginning of the twentieth century.
Hans P. Kraus Jr. Inc. is a member of the Art Dealers Association of America (ADAA), the Private Art Dealers Association (PADA), and the Association of International Photography Art Dealers (AIPAD).
The gallery has two annual exhibitions with public hours and participates in international art fairs: The European Fine Art Fair (TEFAF) Maastricht, The Art Show (ADAA), Art Basel, Frieze Masters, Paris Photo, and The AIPAD Photography Show.
