Lee’s Miss Pinky Breaks the Couch is a picture book about a very clumsy elephant and new babysitter, Miss Pinky.Bloody Bones by Jeff Lowry is a collection of stories that re-imagines tales of monsters and creatures from Irish mythology.Claire Merchlinsky’s Darwin is a book of educational info-graphic portraits of people who have inspired thought, spread knowledge or promoted change.Robin Mørk’s Swarms combines a love of language and fascination for animal life in visualizations of collective animal groupings.High Note by Liam O’Donnell explores the intersection of imagination and improvisation through a collection of images pairing sheet music and illustrations.Joowon Oh’s A Quiet Morning is the story of a special day in the life of an old man who is living in solitude on a quiet hill in the country.Daniel Pagan’s The Dreamer is a collection of poetry and images that reflects on coming of age and maintaining a positive outlook on life.Ill Thoughts by Amelia Rosales, inspired by random events and overheard conversations during long walks on the streets, combines philosophical images and phrases that paradoxically provide answers to the questions they ask.The Orange Tree by Vesper Stamper is a historic, young-adult graphic novella about two teens who meet on the day of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp’s liberation.Jackie Tam’s Dying Beast is a short story about the beauty of Earth and the destructive power of man, in which a mysterious healer’s healthful foods cause a king to be consumed by greed.MFA Illustration as Visual Essay at SVA is designed to maximize students’ opportunities as figurative artists, from the gallery wall to the full range of digital, print and online media. The program fuses the development of creative thinking with technical and communication skills. Additional focus is placed on best practices in navigating the visual-art marketplace while empowering students to choose art-making as a way of life.
