Mihai Grecu’s videos oscillate between fotographic pictorial research and experimental animation. His films depict dream-like visions, poetic observations of a single space are mixed with subtle transformations of perception. In the videos, he brings mental pictures and landscapes to life and creates realities that can be contextualized with regards to their objective qualities, but which elude topological attributions. Initially, this reveals the symbolic powers of landscape. Furthermore, the human effects on nature become visible. By breaking with fundamental constants, there is not only a referential but also an ironically commentary character. In GLUCOSE (2012), an illogical alternative to known oppositions arises, in which a fish, free from all laws of physics, swims in the air and pralines seem to dissolve into gas. In EXLAND (2013), Grecu develops a world that is at once fantastic and fear-inducing: blinking pink lights passes over a deserted mountain range, accompanied by an eerie soundscape - an ensemble that offers, despite seeming bleak, a humoristic perspective on the subject of grandeur.
