About art
How I got into art:
probably comics... though it is difficult to say... I think as I got older, reading philosophy pushed me to art.
What art means to me:
It means... an obsession I have to feed...a way to express the parts of my life that would otherwise turn into a weird psychosis... a beautiful and transcendental experience... a method of critically thinking and perceiving the world... a path whereby I can grow and expand... a method of holding and exposing secrets...
My favourite artists:
I think this changes so often... I am kind of identyfying with Neo Rausch but only somewhat... I love a great many historical painters... have a special fondness for Max Beckman... but it seems that everytime I see good Art, I feel that in some weird, maybe even slight way, I like it.
I have a fondness for the more bizarre medieval paintings and illuminated manuscripts... as well as the work of William Blake. I could go on forever...
Most impressive piece of art of another artist:
too hard to answer... I was really impressed years ago when I saw a Max Beckman retrospective... his large triptychs were burned into my mind forever.
My favourite art books:
Alice in Wonderland?
need to do more research on this.
What has changed in the world of art in recent years:
Well, I am told that we are in the age of Pluralism... that painting has regained some level of importance and is now sitting comfortably along with installation, performance, sound, etc...
And it seem that you can find almost anything. I think one major change, a change that saddens me, is that people have lost their taste for tragedy... and irony has replaced it.
