Our profile

Dear Visitors,

With an exhibition on Albert von Keller who was active in Munich at the turn of the 20th century, we turn to a period of time that was momentous on a societal and artistic level and remember an impassioned von Keller aficionado who spent his life in Zurich, pursuing chemical formulas and who had a penchant for extraordinary beauties.

On a larger scale, the exhibition of Katharina Fritsch, which will be held in the Bührle-Saal, with sculptures, installations and images will be arranged as a sensuous walk-through of the oeuvre of this extraordinary artist. Concurrently with this exhibit, this year we will again hold an impressive number of summer workshops.

At the moment the architect David Chipperfield's designs for the Kunsthaus expansion are being re-worked with the various project partners: the optimization of the exterior appearance of the building and of the public areas of the interior such as the entrance hall and the passage to the art garden, as well as the functionality of these are the main topics focused on during this stage. There are current information panels available to you in the entrance hall and updates on the Kunsthaus website and in the museum magazine.

Despite the financial crisis the program of the Kunsthaus stands strong and unchanged, and this is not to be taken for granted for such extensive programming and in comparison to other international institutions. Government subventions are at our disposal as much as before, sponsors have remained loyal and new ones have joined us in our efforts, small and large contributions as well as gifts to our collection allow us to continue our work without major setbacks. The numbers of visitors to our exhibitions, our collection and other events are on the rise. Culture is alive and well in Zurich, and we find this is important at the present time - and look forward to your visit to the Kunsthaus!

Yours, Christoph Becker
