Degas, Impressionism, and the Paris Millinery Trade focuses particularly on the manufacture of hats in Paris—the fashion capital of the world in the late 19th and early 20th centuries—and is the first exhibition to explore the remarkably rich visual imagery around this popular accessory of contemporary urban life. Key paintings created between 1875 and 1914 explore the complex process of hat making, depict the display and sale of these objects, and portray their fashionable wearers. In addition to about 70 paintings, pastels, prints, and photographs, the exhibition includes approximately 40 period hats.This exhibition is organized by the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and the Saint Louis Art Museum.The catalogue is published with the assistance of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Endowment for Publications.Adults $25, seniors 65+ $20, students with current ID $16, youth 6–17 $10, members and children 5 and under free.
