From our perspective, these distant star groupings are seemingly tangible entities, visible only at night. According to some, constellations rule our daily lives as they rotate through our astrological charts, causing chaos or sweetness depending on time and place and how they interact with each other. As they shape our everyday events and actions, they help create our life memories, our definitions of who we are and how we perceive ourselves. They enable us to recall past and present situations, which can change over time with our emotional needs and desires.“The MAT graduate students have named their final show ‘Constellations of Memory’ as a way to reflect on past memories while anticipating events to come. Nature, time and place are referenced throughout the show, as each artist reflects on a different aspect and theme.”Participating artists include Curt Confer, Jeanna Dressel, Carl Landegger, Gracie Nesin, Justine Morrow, Michelle Schwartz, Melissa Siegel, Samantha Tharler and Qing Zhuang.MAT Art Education at SVA provides a hands-on learning environment where student teachers research and explore educational issues and topics while continuing to make art. Course work relates directly to fieldwork and student teaching through the discussion of course development, classroom management and age-appropriate application of educational theory.
