Catharina van eetvelde

(Saturday) (Sunday)

The drawing and its role in contemporary culture are at the heart of the work of the Paris-based artist Catharina van Eetvelde (b. Ghent, 1967). Her works on paper are precise and austere, suggesting blueprints or scientific illustrations. No less important to her art are lines that live only in virtual reality: drawn with a stylus on a graphics tablet, they exist as digital data, emerging on the screen for a limited period as commanded. Her exploration of other forms of existence such as the nature around her or physical matter as such also brings the spatial and tactile potential of lines to bear in collages and installations made of paper, felt and thread, cables and batteries.
