Overview: French-American artist Louise Bourgeois's conflicting sides—existentialist and surrealist—will be explored through some 30 works on paper and illustrated books. The focus installation will include important semi-abstract ink drawings from 1947 and 1950 and an extremely rare copy of the artist's He Disappeared into Complete Silence (1947), comprising nine seminal engravings and nine spine-chilling parables. On view at the center of this constellation of works on paper will be Germinal (1967), an alluring marble sculpture that speaks to the very essence of creativity.
