Sophie Taeuber-Arp. Today Is Tomorrow

(Saturday) (Sunday)

Sophie Taeuber-Arp (1889 – 1943) ranks among the most important Swiss artists of the 20th century. A woman of many talents, she created work of the highest quality in the fields of design, painting, textiles, drawings, sculpture, architecture, dance and scenography. Confidently manipulating form, colour and material, Sophie Taeuber-Arp developed a signature artistic style that reflected both a keen awareness of contemporary trends and a precise artistic stance. The exhibition explores the way the artist thought and proceeded across disciplines. Instead of subordinating applied art to fine art, as is usually done, this comprehensive show considers the two on an equal footing. Including more than 200 works, it offers viewers the opportunity to experience the work's wide range and diversity and emphasizes the artist's trailblazing role as a modernist: her today invariably points to a tomorrow.
