Urban Contemporary Art Gallery Hosts Children’s Exhibition

(Lunedì) (Mercoledì)

The idea of a gallery which specializes in urban street art  exhibiting a collection of works by primary school children, created as part of a project to educate the next generation in sound economic practices, would have been as radical in the early 70s as the birth of modern graffiti was. Wednesday (9th November) up-and-coming Amsterdam art gallery ArTicks presents a collection of works by local children from playgroups participating in the second Week van het Geld (Money Week), a Dutch initiative aimed at teaching children how to sensibly mange money.

The paintings are inspired by the theme of financial risk-taking and investment, and have produced interesting, honest and creative results. Firm believers in the importance of children being creatively stimulated, the management of ArTicks were keen to lend their support to the project by offering to host an exhibition of the paintings, and  the prize giving for the best four works. One of ArTicks most prolific resident artists, Daniel RECAL Oosterman, says the encouragement he received at a young age to explore different artistic media and techniques was an essential part of his creative development and career.

The young artists participating in the exhibition will also speak about their paintings during the event, and actor Hassan Slaby, who plays Eman Loukili in the children’s soap opera SpangaS, will be present to lend a touch of junior glamour to the proceedings. The prizewinners will be announced by Alderman Roeland Rengelink and the prizes will be awarded by Anky van Leeuwen from the Verbond van Verzekeraars (Association of Insurers), one of the organizers of Money Week. The exhibition is open to the public from 12:00 to 18:00 on Wednesday 9th November at ArTicks Gallery, Singel 88, in the centre of Amsterdam. The prize-giving takes place at 15:30.
