The Gilded Age: Models from the Linke Furniture Workshop
Price: Admission FreePrice: Admission FreeFrançois Linke (1855 – 1946) was one of the most important Parisian cabinet-makers of his day, supplying luxury furniture to an international clientèle during the Gilded Age, a time when the worldwide influence of French fashion was at its height. Drawing on the material available in the extraordinary Linke Archive, this display will demonstrate different stages in the production of a piece of furniture, including 3-dimensional models of wax, wood and plaster and master models for the gilt-bronze mounts. Along with cabinetmaker's plans and Linke's meticulous record books, these give us a unique window through which to view a leading workshop, whose methods had changed little since the eighteenth century.
