Otto Freundlich

(Суббота) (Воскресенье)

Otto Freundlich (1878-1943) knew everyone and knew everything. Scarcely another artist of the first half of the twentieth century turned his mind with such passion and intelligence to all the diverse currents in art.He was on close terms and often reals friends with the leading artists of Expressionism, Fauvism, Cubism, Orphism, Dada, Suprematism, De Stijl, Bauhaus, Constructivism, with the Cologne Progressives, and ultimately with the abstractionists. There was no shortage of mututal influences – yet Freundlich took his own path with his paintings and sculptures, his mosaics and stained glass. The exhibition will follow the route described by Otto Freundlich’s life and work, and trace out the developments in his artistic and philosophical ideas.Tribute will be paid to the work of a man who was forced to the brink, persecuted, vilified, and finally murdered, The exclusion and eradication of the work and the artist is the chief reason for the delayed and still far from adequate appraisal of Freundlich’s art.
