Back and forth goes my mind. Creaking neurons and the fervent swing of cells to and fro. I dream of kisses in red dresses and views of mountains seen over freshly painted toes. Swing back and I daydream that I’d done things differently, that I’d turned left instead of right, said no instead of yes. Swing forward and I imagine I hear little feet running on hardwood floors, taste the amazing steak I’m finally able to grill without burning. Hardly anyone has a mind that can just hang, still and silent, in the present, but this relentless back and forth makes the ground under my feet a blur and distance is only an illusion. Here I am.now.me. and I could never have dreamed up this version of myself.
