Bernhard Bischoff (*1973) has been working as a freelance curator, a publicist, and a manager regarding different aspects in art. In order to intensify his occupation in support of artists, he pursued and successfully created his own gallery. He found appropriate rooms for his plans in the 1904 edified, former Hotel Beau Rivage in Thun. This gallery was situated at a picturesque location, nestled between the scenic old town and the first wooded alpine upland, and overlooking the water and the mountains rising from the lake. Paradoxically this is an ambiance rich with history and yet yearning and compassionate to incorporate contemporary artwork. Artists with international radiance have performed within the rooms of this gallery over the span of more than three years in annual exhibitions.
The gallery then moved in 2005 to Berne. As a new partner, Marlies Kornfeld aided to shape the gallery’s future. They found a space in the city center at the Speichergasse, in the immediate vicinity of the Kunst museum of Bern. This location provided more room for the demanding program and the centre of art production PROGR.
The gallery’s program consists of a healthy mixture of different varieties of contemporary art. Paintings, drawings, and sculptures are well represented in addition to installations, video art, photography and new media. Like all the other institutions in the “art business” consulting is to the fore. Collectors want and shall experience more about the artists and their work. The gallery can provide this “Know how”. Think, be initiative, and open for all wishes or suggestions – this is our motto! We want to show national and international art positions and acquire renown beyond frontiers as an active mediator and catalyser of contemporary art.
In addition to regular gallery exhibitions; the gallery Bernhard Bischoff & Partner carries out a variety of pursuits in their pubic space, such as performances and symposiums.
