The Third Dimension by Christine Metz & Claudia Flach
Cork Vision Centre @ St. Peter’s
6th June / 25th July 2015
‘The Third Dimension’, an exhibition of Paintings and Ceramics by ‘Spacelab’ gets its Irish premiere at The Cork Vision Centre @ St. Peter’s during the months of June and July 2015.
‘Spacelab’ is made up of 2 German artists; Christine Metz and Claudia Flach who first collaborated in 2010 in order to experiment with the different dimensions of Visual Art, through their respective media and interaction with their disparate works.
In her paintings, Christine Metz creates abstract and surreal worlds through glazing layers whose complexity gives room for multiple interpretations. Claudia Flach picks up shapes and figures out of the paintings to transfer them into ceramic objects, thus putting them into the third dimension.
At a later point, Metz also creates paintings inspired by Flach's objects. Assembled as pairs, the painting and the object turn into a new unit and expression of great presence. A part of the image becomes cognizable in a haptic way; and even as object and painting commune, they create a space that is accessible for the observer who may walk in, experience, and become part of it.
This interchangeable way of creating has resulted in an exhibition that is striking and evocative, the works selected for inclusion in the exhibition conveying a unique perspective to us the viewer – a question as to which Artist came up with the original idea, that then sparked the other into creating their own piece and vice-versa.
‘The Third Dimension’ invites the viewer to embark on a visual journey of exploration, as we explore the respective artworks in their own right and then as a pair - the resulting Art created is revealed in a new light.
