We've got a spanking new exhibition for you! "Silk to Bitcoin" is currently on view at Island6 Shanghai, where the show will take up residence from now until September 27th.
For centuries silk was the embodiment of China and its luxurious, highly-prized fibers represented Chinese technology, material culture and identity abroad. But what are the new silk roads? China exports a range of personal electronic devices and manufactured goods across the globe - are laptops and iPhones the new silk? Or is it contemporary art? Two thousand years before the advent of globalization, the Silk Road exported objects and ideas and was a precursor to the social phenomenon we call transnationalism, the heightened interconnectivity and flow of cultural and economic exchange across the borders of nation-states. The latest exhibition from the Liu Dao art collective "Silk To Bitcoin" traverses the new silk roads.
