Reclaim Photography Festival 2017: Reclaiming Our Cultural Landscapes

This eagerly awaited second international photography festival: Reclaiming Our Cultural Landscapes, returns to the West Midlands. The exhibition displays works from amateur, student and professional photographers, from 56 UK towns and cities, and 36 countries world-wide which has led to over a 1000 Festival images. 

The travelling gallery exhibition will begin at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery from 6-21 May 2017, before travelling to Wolverhampton Art Gallery from 23 May – 7 June 2017. The exhibition will showcase 30 prints, selected by our Festival Adjudicator, British artist, Richard Billingham.  



On Saturday 6 May 2017, we will be hosting a free talk and tour of the exhibition from 12-1pm.  

We would also like to invite Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery visitors to participate in the Festival, to celebrate the wonderful cultural diversity and heritage across the region.We would like you to take a photo of your favourite artefact, or one you feel represents your cultural heritage. Post them here and we will choose a selection of images to exhibit in our Flickr Gallery!You can also find us here: www.facebook.com/groups/BMAGRPF17PHOTOCOMPFor the first time, we are able to offer professional awards for some of our gallery exhibitors and we are grateful to everyone who has generously offered these prestigious opportunities. These include a solo exhibition at Argentea Gallery, Birmingham’s newest contemporary photography gallery; an opportunity to spend the day at the studio of celebrated British portrait and fashion photographer Rankin, exclusively for a photographer aged between 18-25; a year’s membership with the prestigious Royal Photographic Society; work experience on a photographic shoot, during 2017 with Multistory, and inclusion in BLUR Magazine.

Prints from our one day event and travelling gallery exhibition, will be auctioned by Will Farmer, Fieldings Auctioneers Ltd, to raise funds for St Basils, who work with young people aged 16-25, to prevent youth homelessness (Charity No: 1080154). The auction will take place at the Edwardian Tearooms, Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery on Friday 7 July from 5-8pm.
