Cardboard boxes, paper bags, wooden sticks, polystyrene beads… the Swiss conceptual artist Zimoun creates audio and architectural installations using everyday, functional elements. The unique properties of each material – resistance, volatility, elasticity, friction - form the pretext for a new kind of experimentation. 300 prepared dc-motors, 27 kg wood, is an installation created specifically for the museum. It consists of 300 mechanically-jointed wooden sticks. This monumental structure is nonetheless organic: each element moves entirely autonomously, and the repetitive, stilted movements suggest the rhythm of breath. Somewhere between cacophonic poetry and structured chaos, Zimoun imagines complex and meticulously-planned constructions capable of transforming a space. This exhibition is his first museum show held in the French part of Switzerland.Cardboard boxes, paper bags, wooden sticks, polystyrene beads… the Swiss conceptual artist Zimoun creates audio and architectural installations using everyday, functional elements.
